Fairly decent taste to this, and it mixes real well. Dissapointing profile and protien value. In todays market and in the price bracket it is available for I would be expecting to hit around 80% per serving but instead we are getting around 71%. IT is nice to see the added benefits but not at the cost of a market average amount of protien.

Time for USN to get a review this time its there PURE PROTEIN GF-1

TASTE: An important factor to most of us & this does taste just as it says CHOCOLATE CREAM its a very malty cream chocolate taste very nice and smooth if you like chocolate creme then ull like this folks altho i did find this a little to creamy for my liking.

MIXABILITY: We can not fault this mixes with out any problem as we all know blends & 56g powder can some times clump a little but alls good here

PROFILE: This is a 71% protein blend i had a sample sachet which is 56g 2 servings giving me 40g of the following:
    Calcium caseinate
    High isoflavone soy protein isolate
    egg albumen
    whey protein isolate
They dont tell us the amounts of each but they are not in brackets so they could be in that order it still works out low doses of each to make that 71%. It does say that per 56g sachet there is 9g BCAA"S So lets take a quick look at the proteins said in this profile:

Whey protein isolate & concentrate blend - A whey protein isolate (often whey isolate) is a dietary supplement created by filtering milk protein. Whey is a by-product of the cheese-making process. Whey can be processed to yield whey protein in three forms: whey isolate, whey concentrate, or whey hydrolysate. Whey proteins are highly bioavailable, are very quickly absorbed into the body, and have a high concentration of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) which are highly concentrated in muscle tissue, and are used to fuel working muscles and stimulate protein synthesis. The difference between the whey protein forms is the process used to filter the proteins. Whey isolates yield a higher percentage of pure protein and can be filtered enough to be virtually lactose free, carbohydrate free, fat free, and cholesterol free.

whey protein concentrate is the cheapest and most common form of whey protein, a byproduct of cheese production. Whey protein concentrate is used to increase dietary protein intake, often with the goal of maximizing muscle hypertrophy. Concentrates typically have a low (but still significant) level of fat and cholesterol but, in general, have higher levels of bioactive compounds as well as carbohydrates in the form of lactose — they are only 29%–89% protein by weight.

Calcium caseinate – Calcium Caseinate is a biologically-unique grade of protein derived from milk, and is low in fat, lactose and sodium. In addition, Calcium Caseinate boasts an impressive nutritional profile that’s naturally rich in amino acids, protein and calcium. What is its use? Despite having the same high quality rating as traditional whey isolates, Calcium Caseinate is more slowly utilised based on its coagulating properties. This slow digestion process allows the body to absorb more of the amino acids and peptides, while offering a steady and prolonged supply of nitrogen to muscle tissues. The slow-release makes Calcium Caseinate a great choice of protein before bed or when one knows they may not be consuming a high protein meal/supplement for at least a few hours.

High isoflavone soy protein isolate - Soy protein isolate is a highly refined or purified form of soy protein with a minimum protein content of 90% on a moisture-free basis. It is made from defatted soy flour which has had most of the nonprotein components, fats and carbohydrates removed. Because of this, it has a neutral flavor and will cause less flatulence than soy flours.

Egg albumen (The White Of The Egg) - As we all know Eggs are a rich source of quality protein yet many people are concerned by the fat and cholesterol found in the yolk. Egg albumen is a convenient way of increasing your protein intake without the hassle of separating the yolk from the egg white

We have all the proteins in this but as i said above it would have been nice to see a higher %%% of protein in this product. As for the carbs as to be expected
4% per 100g with 2% coming from sugars & 2.2g per 56g sachet with 1.2g of that being sugars.

So it looks like this per 56g sachet

    Total calories 203
    Protein 40g
    Total Carbs 2.2g
    Sugars 1.2g
    Fats 2.8g
    Of which Sats 1.2g
    Of which MCTs 1g
    Fibre 2g

OVERALL: This is going out at about £44.95 for a 2.28 kilo tub for 40 servings which for a 71% protein is just crazy ££££ & that alone will put people off this BUT there is some USN fans out there who would buy this It does come in 5 flavours which are

I had this in Chocolate flavour, Like all USN products ive tried the taste is very good, good chocolate flavour.

    Per 56g Serving
    40g of Protein
2.2g of Carbs of which 1.2g sugars
With 1g of added MCT oil.

Very impressive carbs so low you can have this anytime of the day.

The protein is made up of Whey protein concentrate, Calcium caseinate, High isoflavone soy protein isolate.

Ive seen better blends but still no complaints here. This is a 24 hour supplement meaning you can have this day or night before bed as its high in Calcium caseinate to feed the muscles whilst sleeping .

    A good quality protein.

I was excited to try Pure Protein as you only have to look at the massive list of nutritional information to realise it has ALOT of good stuff in it. I've also found USN protein products in the past to be great tasting.
I was very disappointed. I put a portion into my shaker, added water and began shaking...this was where it fell down. I felt like I was shaking this thing for ever and it just didn't want to blend. I'm all for a good bi's session but this was just tedious. Due to the lack of blending it meant that the final drink was a bit grainy/powdery, almost like when creatine hasn't been mixed in properly. I was using the strawberry flavour protein. It tasted ok but had a strange after taste, I couldn't quite put my finger on what the after taste was (almost a little bitter!).
The price is competitive, meaning that if you aren't phased by a very mediocre taste you can get decent nutritional spread for a reasonable price.

    Pros -
    - Great nutritional content
    - Competitive price

    Cons -
    - Mediocre flavour
    - Very poor mixability

    Strawberry flavour:

I don't usually give 5*s but I just couldn't find an area in which to fault these!

    The good:

    The taste:
DEEEELICIOUS! This is possibly the best tasting protein I have yet to try. It was sweet but not sickly or overbearing, and didn't taste "fake" like some other proteins from brands I've tried in the past.

    The texture:
Beautifully thick and creamy! I blend my protein with ice and water and its definitely thick enough. In the past I've had to use milk (usually almond) to thicken up my shakes but not with this one - this is perfect with water and ice, which is especially good for those who are watching their kcals or trying to steer clear of too much dairy.

The shake is smooth, not grainy, and it blends really well. I could easily be tricked into thinking I'm drinking a normal strawberry milkshake.

One serving is really filling and keeps you feeling nicely full for hours - great for on the go if you use an ordinary shaker and wire ball.

    The nutritional content:
GREAT source of protein. With water / ice, one 56g serving packs 40G OF PROTEIN!! With only 2.2g of carbs and 2.8g of fat (1.2g sat fat included in that). Spot on in terms of sugars and the protein content couldn't be better - no wonder it leaves you full for ages!
Fibre is pretty low at 2g per 56g serving, but one serving gives you 62% of the daily RDA of calcium before you add any milks - great!

    The cost:
well priced and an amazing deal now that its on sale!

    The bad:
    For me, NONE.

Overall, i have definitely been sold by the strawberry flavour and can't wait to try out the toffee banana one in the future - when hopefully the great deal on price will still be on (grab 'em whilst you can!)

    Would definitely recommend!

This has a good blend of proteins to drip feed the muscles over time. Added vitamins and minerals,BCAA's and glutamine. For ingredients I'd give 5/5
Mixes quite thick, slightly grainy but nothing to put you off. Taste is good(strawberry) so 4/5
Overall it's a good supplement but I wouldn't give it top marks due to price. Over £1.20 a serving!!!
There are other proteins with similar ingredients, blends and quality but cheaper.
    Phil 07/07/2014
Firstly, not a massive fan of the soy involved, and the incomplete breakdown of protein ratios.

Negatives out of the way, in general as a protein blend (and as previously, if conforming to labelling convention), then USN have done a reasonably good job with the various sources.

Mixes thickly, no issues with lumps - shake hard, use a grate or a blender ball, and it is fine.

Strawberry tastes good - not mind blowing, but is thick like a milkshake, and slightly less perfumed than others on the market - still not natural by any means, but is a solid effort and nice enough.

Nice vitamin blend, added MCTs are a great bonus, and overall USN have done a solid job with a very decent shake for the price bracket.
    Dale 06/07/2014
First of all, this seems to have been around for as long as I can remember (albeit with an added 'I' on the GF-1).

I really do feel that this (especially the Strawberry Cream flavour) is one of the best post-workout protein's on the market today.

I do feel that the other reviews have hit the nail on the head and you really can't go wrong using this product. A massive 40g of protein per serving with all the added vitamins and minerals to aid growth and recovery is a no-brainer.

USN products in the past (from my experience) have always been somewhat lumpy but if you mix for around 30-45 seconds you'll soon have a light, bubbly and smooth great-tasting shake.

USN products in the past have generally been much more expensive than other leading brands but you can rest-assure that you'll be getting a great price/deal from Echo.

I would give this product 10/10, a much proven, great-tasting protein shake that constantly delivers time after time.
    Nick 01/07/2014
I have tried nearly every protein out there, the strawberry cream Usn gf-1 is just the best tasting strawberry I have ever tried. I can see why so many of my friends and fellow fighters recommend it.
Its a good blend of proteins which will fuel your recovery over a period of time and the added Bcaa and glut to add to the arsenal.
So easy to mix the consistancy was to my liking nice and thick, somewhat of a milkshake like treat.
It's my no means the cheapest product you will find but the premium price is backed up by just how damn good it is.
Love this product 5/5 for me and I don't say that for any old stuff.
Would buy this time and time again without a moments hesitation.
    Andy 30/06/2014
USN Pure Protein GF-1 has got to be one of the best proteins I have had to date.

It's has a massive 40g of protein per one full serving which is made up from an impressive source of ingredients, including Whey protein concentrate, high isoflavone soy protein isolate and whey protein isolate. These servings can also be halved and your still getting a good 20g of protein.
Along with the protein you also get a good 17g of BCAA's, l-glutamine, glutamic acid and lactase enzymes which should help anyone who has difficulty digesting lactose.

This protein is awesome when mixed with water. Mix for 30 seconds and the consistency is amazing, it is like what over proteins can only try and achieve when mixed with milk, just thick and smooth enough to make you want to go back for more. Exactly how you expect a protein shake should be.

I had strawberry cream flavour. I am not usually a fan of fruit flavoured proteins, I usually find them a bit on the sweet side. But I would definitely have this flavour again, it hits the spot.

To sum it up....I think this protein should be on everyones list to try. Impressive ingredients, excellent amount of protein per serving and probably the best shake you will have tried to date.

Taste (Strawberry): 10/10- Taste is never the most important factor for me when it comes to supplements. After all, i take them for their benefits, not for how enjoyable they are. That being said, this shake delicious! I genuinely did not want it end, and even taking it with water, it was nicer than any milkshake i can remember having!

Mixability: 8/10- It did mix very well, it just took a little while. The instructions specifically state that it should be mixed for 30 seconds, and i’d suggest sticking to that. Any less, and you may find your shake a little clumpy.

Consistency: 10/10- If you like it thick that is! By far the thickest protein shake i’ve come across when using water. I’d expect the thickness comes from the calcium caseinate in the protein blend.

Ingredient Profile: 9/10- The ratio of protein/carbs/fat is excellent! A 56g serving provides 40g protein, 2g carbs and 3g fat. What more could you ask for?! Well, some Pantothenic acid, magnesium, folic acid and Niacin apparently. A few added extras which claim to increase protein synthesis and support the metabolism of the product.

Overall: 9/10- I have to admit, i’ve never been too fussy when it comes to my choice of protein powder, i use them simply to supplement my protein intake and typically that is all that concerns me. However, this product may gone and have changed that for me! I would happily pay a small premium to have a serving of this as a post-workout treat after each session, and can’t wait to try out some of the other flavours! Mmmm….
    Barry 28/06/2014
Multi source protein powder with added vitamins, minerals. Very low in fat and carbs so that s a plus. It didn't get above 3 stars from me as I found it mixes very thick. It's also not the greatest tasting Strawberry Cream I've had. Kinda reminds me of Angel Delight. It's certainly drinkable though and can't argue with the nutritional profile.
    Chris 28/06/2014
This could actually be a turning point for me. Traditionally I've bought my straight up whey and protein blends from "own brand" manufacturers (whilst all-in-ones I tend to favour Reflex) mainly based on price, but I guess the old adage of you get what you pay for here may be true. Soy protein has got a bad wrap over the last few years, but some interesting studies of late showing how a medium speed digesting protein (such as soy), can act as the ideal bridge between whey & casein to keep protein synthesis elevated for longer. USN do not break down the exact amount of whey/casein/soy but if they are adhering to convention than this order shown should indicate the order of density of each in the formula.....which looks spot on.

Enough about soy already, I said this is a turning point for me and not for the above (welcome) reason. This is without a lie the best consistency shake I've ever had with water; period. At first when I started mixing the Strawberry flavour powder I was not impressed as there were some obvious white clumps hanging about....but following the instructions and giving it a vigorous shake for the full 30 seconds and crucially allowing it to rest yielded a well blended shake with the consistency of whole milk (in 320ml of water)! The flavour was really quite pleasant and I think it may be a bit too much in milk actually.

It comes with an added vitamin blend and while it's not going to replace anything in your diet or vitamin supps, it's a nice addition. For me the nicest added extra is the glutamine. At 8g's per serving this is double the amount found in my previous fave blend and it's a supplement I often add independently (so wouldn't need to with this) to aid with recovery. There is also a large amount of BCAA's but it's not clear if this is added extra, or just from the properties of the whey and as such it does not indicate the volume of leucine et all.

I would mark this 5 stars if the ingredients were broken down accurately (and still looked favourable), but a strong 4/5 for me.
    Drew 28/06/2014
I'm a big fan of multi-source protein blends, but although this product has multiple sources, those sources aren't exceptional. Whey concentrate is a given, but the other 2 are calcium caseinate (A cheaper, not as good form of Micellar Casein) and Soy Protein Isolate. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe the hype about estrogen production in males for one second, my problem with Soy proteins of any form is the inferior amino acid profile. Soy is also cheaper and often used as a filler for this reason.

The flavour (Strawberry Cream) was ok, a slight powdery aftertaste, but nothing major and certainly not unpleasant. It was very thick when mixed with the recommended amount of water, too thick for me, so I would definitely recommend using more like 500ml+ rather than 300-350ml.

In its favour though, this product is more than simply a protein powder and comes packed with added extras - Pantothenic Acid (Assists in protein synthesis, metabolism of hormones and mental focus and reduction of tiredness), Magnesium (Protein synthesis and muscle function), Folic acid (Amino acid synthesis and immune system function), Niacin (Energy systems), plus something called 'Tolerase' - which can help those who are sensitive to lactose to digest and utilize lactose better.

At 40g of protein per serving, plus 17g of added BCAAs and Glutamine AND the fact that it is very low fat and carb, this is a fantastic product and seriously hard to beat in its price range...

    Flavour - Chocolate

Review - i don't know where to start, i only ever give a product a 5-star rating if i think it is exceptionally good!
USN have nailed it with this one; tastes absolutely amazing in the chocolate flavour!
The recommended serving size is spot on; 2 scoops and 300ml of water. Shake well and then you have what is possibly one of the best protein shakes on the market, taste wise and by ingredient profile.
Pure protein Gf1 doesn't taste grainy or artificial like some chocolate shakes and is great between meals or as a post workout shake.

Verdict - If your looking for a great tasting protein shake with a good ingredient profile then this is the one! 5-stars

Bottom line - Buy! Buy! Buy! Echo Supplements have the best price for this powder!
    Andrew Millar 22/01/2014
I've tried a few protein shakes but have settled on this, bought it regularly over the last couple of months. Excellent all round!
